20 years too late…

10 years too early. Imperial Drag is one of my favorite all time bands. They came and went in the mid 90’s. I came to know them by hearing a few of their songs on a surfing contest that I recorded on to VHS from ESPN or Fox Sports or somthing like that. I use to watch that tape everyday not only because of the great surfing at Pipeline, but because of the soundtrack to it. After realizing who the band was I went out to buy their CD at Best Buy and I played it to its death. After Losing that CD I was really bummed out.

One day a year or four later I went to Huntington Beach to surf, and when I was done for the day I stop by the local shops on main street really to ceck out the ladies. Nevertheless I went into a mom and pop CD shop and I figured i would see if they had the Imperial Drag CD and sure enough they did. So for a couple dollars I bought a used Imperial Drag CD and ever since then I have played.

The CD is incredible, innovative, and seriously some of the best guitar tones Ive ever heard. If I had the oppertunity I would love to get that band together again. If I was a record label I would sign them and push them to the masses. A band like Imperial Drag is what we need to get back to how the “business” used to be… about the artist… who would of thought…. Instead, a band like them, you know the ones with talent…. get shelved. And thats what happens today, you the listener get the cookie cutter music that isnt musically integral, but what is “fast money.” We need to change back to letting the artist run their career so we can have great music again.
